Jennifer Mathers—Restoration Biologist & Office Manager

Jennifer manages office operations for Shelterbelt, and provides expertise on botany, restoration planning, and vegetation mapping.  Jennifer received a Master of Environmental Management from Yale University's School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, where she focused on biodiversity conservation and land use policy.  She has worked in resource conservation, restoration, and botany for over fifteen years at private consulting firms, public parks, and research entities in California, Illinois, and Florida.  She has extensive experience conducting rare plant surveys, vegetation mapping and resource assessments, wetland delineations, monitoring mitigation and restoration projects, and is practiced in the techniques of habitat restoration and native plant gardening.

Benjamin Adamo—Foreman
Ben was raised in Virginia and picked up the family trade of custom carpentry. Throughout those years, Ben shifted into the landscaping field.  His love of hiking and backpacking inspired his interest in conservation and restoration of native plants.  Ben began working on the Shelterbelt crew in 2010 and quickly took on the role of Supervisor, eager to practice his skills in crew and site management as well as to further his knowledge of Bay Area ecosystems.  He holds a Qualified Applicators Certficate for Landscape Maintenance pest control.

Dan Brubaker—Foreman

Dan is a Bay Area native who first joined Shelterbelt in 2001, but left to pursue a career as an iron worker.  In 2011 Dan returned to the Shelterbelt crew, bringing with him a knowledge of traditional and modern blacksmithing.  In addition to performing wildland management work for the company, Dan has been working to modify machinery and tools, as well as design and forge new tools in an effort to help shape Shelterbelt's constantly evolving and improving approach to the unique challenges of restoration work.  Dan has worked on restoration projects from the Suisun Valley to Catalina Island. He holds a Qualified Applicators Certficate for landscape maintenance pest control.

Danny Cain—Crew Supervisor
Danny was born and raised in the rainy Pacific Northwest.  He has always worked outdoors and has fostered a passion for riding bikes.  When he was fresh out of high school he got a summer job doing land surveying.  Danny graduated with a B.S. in Environmental Science from Western Washington University in 2005.  He worked for four years doing salmon habitat restoration on the mighty Skagit River and as as gardener for the Raleigh Parks Department in North Carolina, before moving the Bay Area.  Danny has worked for Shelterbelt since 2010, and he has become very familiar with Toxicodendron diversilobum.  He holds a Qualified Applicators Certficate for landscape maintenance pest control.

Jesse Furrow—Crew Supervisor
Jesse arrived at Shelterbelt’s doorstep in 2011. He has since steadily worked his way through the salt marshes of the East Bay to the fire roads of Mt. Tamalpais to become a leader of Shelterbelt’s crews, specializing in field supervision, safety management, and employee development. Prior to joining Shelterbelt Builders, Jesse earned over ten years of trade experience as a carpenter and held seasonal positions as a Kayak Guide in Washington State and Ranger-Naturalist at Grand Teton National Park. Jesse is a member of Shelterbelt’s rope access team and holds a California Qualified Applicator Certificate for landscape maintenance pest control.

Desiree Dobbert—Human Resources Manager
Desiree manages payroll, benefits, and all human resources matters at Shelterbelt.  She earned a Bachelor of Administration Degree in Business Administration and a Bachelors of Administration Degree in the Humanities from California State University, San Bernardino.  After graduation she moved to the Bay Area where she began her career in Human Resources.  Desiree joined Shelterbelt in 2009.   She currently lives in the East Bay with her husband and two adopted daughters.
